Privacy Policy
Draft. Last updated 5 September 2026.
The short version
PICKL stores your city, never your address. Location sharing is off until you turn it on. Your Locker, your settings and your messages are private, and staff cannot read your messages. We do not sell your data.
What we collect
What you give us
- Account — email, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), date of birth, country and city.
- Profile — display name, handle, bio, pronouns, avatar, and the pickleball details you choose to add.
- Content — posts, comments, reactions, match results, reviews and messages.
- Support and reports — what you send us when you report something or get in touch.
What we collect automatically
- Sign-in records — time, method, IP address and browser, so you can review them in Settings and spot access you do not recognise.
- Usage — which features are used, aggregated for product decisions.
What we deliberately do not collect
- Your home address. There is no field for it anywhere in the product.
- Precise background location. Location is only ever recorded when you tap Check In, and those check-ins expire.
- Your contacts. PICKL never asks to sync an address book.
How we use it
To run PICKL: showing your profile to the audience you chose, building your feed, matching you with players and courts near you, keeping the platform safe, and telling you about things that happen to your account. Where a legal basis is required, ours is performance of the contract with you and our legitimate interest in operating a safe service — the exact wording needs review for each jurisdiction.
Who sees what
- Public — your profile, and posts you set to Everyone.
- Limited — posts restricted to followers, connections or a Crew reach only those people. Enforced in the database, not just the interface.
- Private — your Locker, your settings, your notification preferences, your login history and your messages. Staff cannot read your messages.
- Never public — your email address and date of birth.
Who we share it with
Service providers who host the database, store media and send email, under contract and only to provide those services. Law enforcement where we are legally required, or where there is a credible risk to someone's safety. Nobody else. We do not sell personal data and we do not run third-party advertising trackers.
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, portability and objection, subject to the law where you live. Most of these are available directly in Settings: you can edit or delete anything you have posted, change any privacy setting, deactivate temporarily, or delete permanently.
Deletion
Deleting your account removes your profile, posts and comments and releases your handle. Matches you played in remain on the other players' records with your name removed — deleting your account should not rewrite someone else's history. Backups are purged on their normal rotation.
Children
PICKL is not for under-13s. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13 we remove it.
International transfers, retention periods and contact details
These need completing with the actual hosting regions, retention schedule, the data controller's identity and a data protection contact before publication.
